Eligibility Requirements

The Scholarships are intended for full-length adult fiction or non-fiction works. Poetry, dramas, screenplays, children’s books, and short story collections are not eligible.

Qualification Criteria

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must submit an excerpt from a work of between 2,000 and 5,000 words in English that has been published and is for sale. The MMF will examine this through a panel of readers and judges.

The submitted work will be judged solely on its literary value. The Scholarships are not intended to promote academic or scientific research or works of special interest such as religious or political publications. This type of submission or proposal does not qualify.

Responsibilities of Scholarship Beneficiaries

The only requirement imposed on Scholars during their Scholarship year is that they write. They will be asked to submit by email at least 10,000 new words every month until they have finished their book, or their Scholarship term has ended.

If the Scholar completes the first draft of the book before the end of the year, payments will continue while the Scholar edits and refines their work.
