Canadian Scholarship: 2022/2023 University of Waterloo International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE)



Canadian Scholarship: The application is open for 2022/2023 University of Waterloo International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE) in Canada.

The University of Waterloo is now accepting applications from international students interested in applying for its new Award valued at $2,500 per term for a maximum of five terms.

Interested and suitable qualified candidates are invited to apply for the University of Waterloo International Master’s Award of Excellence.


The International Master’s Award of Excellence, valued at $2,500 per term for a maximum of five full-time terms within the allowable program time limits (6 terms), will be awarded to eligible international master’s students normally entering a research-based graduate program at the University of Waterloo beginning May 1, 2019 (spring 2019 admissions cycle). Based on the Faculty’s prize allocation, qualified students will be nominated. Academic quality as indicated by their application for admission to the graduate program will be used to select students.

Eligibility for the University of Waterloo International Scholarship:

Below is the eligibility requirement for the Masters Scholarship at the University of Waterloo:

  1. International students with a valid Canadian study permit who are registered full time and assessed international tuition fees. 
  2. They are normally given to students in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper). 
  3. Will normally only be given to students entering the first term of their program (term 1.0).
  4. Students must demonstrate academic excellence through criteria established by the Faculty.
  5. Students must meet the academic progress requirements of their program and not have outstanding probationary admission requirements. 
  6. This award could be in addition to other internal or external scholarships (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS, etc). Note: scholarships are different than sponsorships – see next bullet.
  7. Normally, students should not be concurrently receiving foreign government or agency sponsorship (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan sponsorship, etc) or be fully or partially self-funded more than the Faculty minimum levels of support. 
  8. Students’ grandparents under the existing IMSA program cannot be nominated for an IMAE; however, a student previously awarded an IMSA for a previously completed master’s degree can be nominated for an IMAE.
  9. Students will be automatically considered for this award based on their application for admission. Departments and/or Faculty will define the internal process by which they select recipients based on the eligibility criteria and allocation.
  10. Faculties may impose stricter eligibility criteria as appropriate.

 

Selection Modality 

Faculties will nominate eligible students based on the Faculty’s award allocation. Students will be selected based on academic excellence as demonstrated through their application for admission to the graduate program.


 

Documents Requirements

Below are documents that may be required of you:

  1. A certified copy of your diploma or certificate;
  2. A complete application form for your course;
  3. An updated CV (if needed);
  4. Letter of Intent (This states your intention to enroll in the college or university and any education course you wish to apply for);
  5. Language results that are no more than one year old for English or French:
    1. English tests that are generally accepted: IELTS, TOEFL, and C1 Advanced
    2. French tests that are mainly accepted in Canada are: TEF, TCF, DALF, and DELF
  6. Proof of funds to show that you can support yourself and anyone who immigrates with you during your studies;
  7. If you are applying for a Ph.D. or Masters program, you will need to have two letters of Academic Reference, along with previous Letters of Employment; and
  8. If you did not study in Canada, you will also need to have your education assessed with an ECA (Educational Credential Assessment)
