Japan MEXT Scholarship: The Japan scholarship for international students to study in Japan is currently open. The embassy of Japan presents the 2023/2024 Japan MEXT scholarship program. The scholarship is of four categories which include undergraduate degree program, college of technology program, specialized training program, and postgraduate or research program (Master, Ph.D., or non-degree courses). Eligible and interested candidates (Secondary school graduates and university graduates) are invited to apply.

The Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology collaborates with other countries’ ministries and agencies to encourage the acceptance of more international students to further their education at world-class universities under the supervision of highly qualified scientists.

Full Benefits of the Japan MEXT Scholarship

Japan MEXT Scholarship 2023 is a Fully Funded Scholarship for International Students to Study in Japan. The Japan MEXT 2023 Scholarship recipient with the following benefits:

• Allowances: Monthly Stipend Allowance, Preparatory Allowance (2023 Rate)
• Education Fees: Fees for the Entrance Examination, and Tuition Fee at Universities will be paid by MEXT.

• Traveling Expenses: Transportation to Japan: MEXT will cover your Round Airfare Travel Expenses from your Country to Japan. The Airline ticket will be an Economy-class ticket for the flight.
• Accommodations: Residence halls For each respective student are provided by universities.

Eligibility Requirement for Japan MEXT Scholarship

To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements.

Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.

Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. Applicants must also have the ability to do research and adapt to living in Japan.

Health: Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s study in Japan. （* Only shortlisted applicants will submit a medical certificate.)

Arrival in Japan: Applicants must choose (between i. April 2024 and ii. September or October 2024) and fill in the application form indicating the preferred month to begin studies in Japan.

Undergraduate: Must be born on or after April 2, 1999—download guidelines for the Japan MEXT undergraduate category here.

College of Technology: Must be born on or after April 2, 1999—download guidelines for the Japan MEXT College category here.

Specialized Training: Must be born on or after April 2, 1999—download guidelines for the Japan MEXT Training category here.

Research Students: Must be born on or after April 2, 1989—download guidelines for the Japan MEXT Research category here.

How to Apply for the 2023/2024 Japan MEXT Scholarship

Below are simplified steps to help you apply for the Japan MEXT Scholarship 2024. Note that the application is not online.

Step 1: Find the Japanese Embassy or Consulate of your country here.

Step 2: Visit the Japanese Embassy in your country

Step 3: Download the Japan MEXT scholarship application form. You will find the form for each category below

Step 4: Submit all required documents which will include your certificates, birth certificates, certificates of origin, and national identity card (You are not to submit originals but photocopies).

NOTE: Successful candidates will be contacted around mid-June. Online or email submissions will not be accepted. You can submit your application physically or via courier to the Japanese Embassy of your country
