About the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)
The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is available to international students interested in pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at Korean universities. The scholarship aims to give international students the opportunity to pursue advanced studies at higher education institutions in Korea, as well as to develop global leaders and strengthen Korea-friendly networks around the world.
Bachelor’s Degree
The Korean government has invited 125 international students from 67 countries to study in Korea for a bachelor’s degree. To be chosen as a GKS grantee, an applicant must successfully complete the first selection process established by the Korean Embassy in his or her country of origin.
Engineering/Nature Science
The Korean government invites 119 international students from 72 countries to pursue a bachelor’s degree (engineering or natural science majors) in Korea, as well as 35 international students from 17 countries to pursue an associate degree. To be chosen as a GKS grantee, applicants must successfully complete the first selection process established by the designated universities.

Requirements for Korean Government Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification
To be eligible for the Korean Government Scholarship:
Citizenship Requirement
- Candidates and their parents must hold non-Korean citizenship.
Age Requirement
- KGSP-U: under 25 (Bachelor’s degree)
- KGSP-G: under 40 (Postgraduate)
Health Requirement
- Candidates must be physically and mentally healthy for their studies in Korea.
Degree Requirements Requirement
- KGSP-U: High school diploma/SSCE (Bachelor’s Degree)
- KGSP-G: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
Grades Requirements for Masters/Transfer only
- The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be 80% or higher; or
- The CGPA must be 2.64/ 4.0, 2.80/ 4.3, 2.91/ 4.5, or 3.23/ 5.0 or higher.
Application and Selection Modality
1st Selection: Applicants submit their applications either to the Korean Embassies around the world or to the partnering universities in Korea. The embassies and universities select the successful candidates among the applicants in the 1st round of selection. The applicants of the successful candidates will then be forwarded to NIIED
2nd Selection: The NIIED selection committee selects the successful candidates among those who passed the 1st round.
3rd Selection: Among the successful candidates who have passed the 2nd round, the applications of those who applied through the Korean Embassies will be reviewed by universities for admission. Successful candidates must get admission from at least one of the universities.
